Just checking in

So I am sick with a cold and "enjoying" some rest time...if you can call it that...so I thought I would just send out an update on our family. Nova is four and enjoys playing with animals (his recent favorites are his mama tiger, baby tiger, two snakes, and owliver the owl), he is doing well with his lessons which consist of reading, writing, and fable tales, and he makes up a good story if you ask him. He is very good at telling me exactly what he thinks. He enjoys going to St. Louis to see the towers and the rainbow (the arch) and loves anything and everything we do there. Milo is taking great strides with his speech. He communicates more and more with words. He is still very physical in his affections, play and anger. We are working on using our words and not our fists to tell others how we feel. He likes having his nails painted and they mostly turn out pink (he loves pinkie pie) but he will choose blue for one or two nails to add some flair. He loves to copy dad when it comes to hygiene like shaving, putting on deodorant, and making sure his hair is nice. Nova likes all that too but not to the extent Milo does. Milo likes to copy his brother too and learns a lot of words by parroting what Nova says. Milo will be three in January and it is crazy to think that my little boys are getting so ginormous! We recently went to Indianapolis. Optimus Prime came to the children's museum and the boys thought it was the coolest thing. We also went to some art and history galleries which we enjoyed and walked along the canal and saw the ducks and geese. It was a great time! My friend Brook invited us to ride the combines while they harvested their late beans and the boys and I really enjoyed it. Beau is Brooks brother and we were riding with him and he let the boys drive and press buttons and look at the beans filling up the back. He explained how the combine worked and everything. It was fun! We just did our Primary Program and Nova refused to say his part and I sounded like I had a frog in my throat due to my cold but other than that it was good. Our family will hopefully be changing a bit this new year and I will be sure to share the secret when things get to be a bit farther along. Lets see who actually reads this huh *evil chuckle*. Well I want to wish Pi Good Luck with the move! I am sorry my phone needs to be replaced it had been picking up glitches so it has been eating up data so I haven't been able to get pictures. love you all!

McDonald Update

Phew! Thank Heavens December is over! I have not checked this in... several months it seems. :( I am just starting the Red Scarf Girl (I didn't know it was on the list to read for November... Mom lent it to me and said it was really good.) There is a new author that i like-self published- and the book that i LOVE is When Death loved an Angel by Cheree Alsop. So good. Anyways we should read it sometime.

So Jon is doing good. He got promoted to a manager at work.... which is really just code for more work at the office and at home :) But he is liking it. I am the relief Society secretary.... and the youngest in the presidency which means I'm the only one who knows how to use the computer. Yipee! Anyways that keeps me very busy changing and unchanging all sorts of things (mostly Visiting Teaching assignments) but I have gotten to know lots of women in the ward and I'm making lots of new friends :) Also Jon and I were the "Ward Christmas Party Chairmen"... what does that mean you ask?? well it means that we planned, organized, researched, implemented, set up, took down, ordered, reported everything that has do to do with the Christmas Party. And when i say 'we' i mean mostly 'me' :) Thank Heavens December is over!!

Eli started going to a Preschool at the college. He LOVES it. Everyday he asks if he has preschool that day... sometimes more than once. He has a best friend Nolan who is in preschool and Primary with him and just happens to live around the block. Score!! It's awesome to have an hour every few days to catch up on stuff while the kids are at a friends house (Lindley goes over too as Nolans little sister is her friend in Nursery) Eli knows his letters (most of them) and lots of numbers. I've started a program at the library "Read a Thousand Books Before Kindergarten". So we are almost to the 200 book mark, and I can tell a HUGE difference in the kids. Their vocabulary and attention span have increased. At first they could just sit through 2 books, now we do around 6 at a time :) Eli still likes trucks and cars. and guns and explosions and good guys vs. bad guys :) He is learning new ways to postpone going to sleep at night. He will come up and say "I just wanted to give mom a hug" and then come up 10 mins later "I wanted to give dad a kiss" or "when you're tired, go to bed. I just wanted to tell you that" :)

Lindley is Miss Independent and wins the stubbornness award almost on a daily basis. She is so sweet. She LOVES Jon and loves to cuddle. She likes to comb my hair while saying "old ill mommy" aka "hold still" She loves dollies and her little kitchen- she makes cupcakes. She is learning how to share and to obey mommy. I swear, sometimes she just wants to be contrary just to show she can be. There have been times i have to wrestle her into the car seat....I mean really while she is kicking and screaming because she doesn't want to be strapped in, or her shoes on, or sometimes its her jacket, or just because it's what I want. She does NOT let Eli push her around. Really. He has bite marks to prove it. :) She can be very frustrating but then she likes to come and cuddle with me in the morning :) and we get along again.

I love you all and miss you!!

Santana Update

Sorry guys! I haven't been on here a while and totally missed out on all the good books. I am totally here now though.

Jon is working lots so not much has changed there. We are looking to see if there are openings closer to home but thats up in the air.

Nova is talking in short sentences and quite the drama llama. He loves to cuddle with Jon and I at night and watch a movie after Milo goes to bed. Trains, cars, dinosaurs and animals are his favorite toys along with the sword Milo got him for Christmas. We read books and do preschool activities. He loves to play outside and check the mail. When Jon has a day off Nova gets to ride in the truck and go ride the mall train and usually has ice cream or some sort of treat. Milo gets dad time too :D Nova loves nursery and has lots of little guy friends to play with! We are working on sharing and saying sorry. He does really good with thank you and please. Potty training is slow but sure. He is growing up so fast!

Milo is cruising, crawling, and standing alone for a few seconds at a time. He says "boo" and what sounds like "up down" when he plays games. He is a chatty chat chat making all sorts of noises and shouts. He has 7 teeth with one more on the way. He loves treats and bothering nova. We are trying to get him to not pull hair which is his go to move. Testing mom and dad is an activity that Milo loves whether its rummaging in the garbage, tackling Nova or getting into forbidden cupboards. He has the cutest smile and loves his daddy with a dedication bordering on obsession! Milo is a climber as well and takes after his daddy in the getting into mischief and getting hurt during adventures department. Milo already has a scar on his face and always seems to have bruises on his head... No matter how close I watch him he always manages to get hurt. I really hope ER visits are not in my future with this kid.

Update

Here is a quick update from us here in Texas

I am the 2nd Counselor in the Primary again. I am over the Cub Scouts. We have NO Cub Master, Assistant Cub Master, or Committee Chair..... (these are very important positions!) so I get to be them ALL....... {sigh}. I am also in charge of the Primary Program. We have 134 primary age children..... they all have a speaking part. Our program is going to ROCK! it is on November 10th. November 11th is going to be a fabulous day!!!!  :)

Hy is still over the deacons. Wednesday evenings and one weekend a month is devoted to the deacons.... YAY! He does a great job with them! Maybe that's why he has been in YM for 8+ years...
He hasn't been traveling for work very much lately, which is nice. He keeps me sane! He does the laundry and the dishes. Side note: I get to buy new bath mats because somehow, in our new laundry arrangement, they are now ruined. :)

Ike just received his Bear Badge, very exciting!  He was very proud. :)
Sis has been working on her book of dress designs. I am so glad I have a daughter! She's the best!
Boo keeps us smiling. He is the funniest kid! He is all over the place and into everything!

School is going great. This year seems to run smoother because we all know the routine. We have a science and P.E. co-op with all the H.S. families in the ward. It's been really fun! We have 22 elementary age, 12 middle school age, and 11 high school age. At lunch and during P.E. all the moms sit and chat which is nice.

Madee and Lucy are both just great. :)

Bookworm Business

I realize we are all super busy! Most days just fly by. Can you believe it is almost November? CrAzYnEsS!!

I don't know if anyone has read the book club books the last few months? I have enjoyed them! I thought we should read Red Scarf Girl: A Memoir of the Cultural Revolution by Ji-Li Jiang for November. I thought we could take a break in December because it's always a busy month. For January we could read Wonder by R.J. Palacio. In February we should read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Any objections? Thoughts? Other suggestions? :)
